A very effective combination of a 6 1/2 inch-long dove tailed plate with an Arca-style quick release clamp to create this special tool called the Kirk LRP-1 Long Rail, for both macro and panorama photography.
You can firmly support your camera with a macro lens, virtually to ground level for those low angle shots
You can also rotate the quick release clamp 90 degrees to grip the camera body plate and slide the long plate through the ball head's quick release show or clamp to function like a macro focusing rail, moving the whole setup of camera and lens back and forth for critical macro fosusing
This rail also allows for the camera to be slided forward or backwards to place the lens center on the axis of rotation of the non-paralax point for panorama photography
Its integrated bubble level also helps to make sure the ball head rotates on a leveled horizontal axis for panorama photography
Like all Kirk rails and plates, light weight but strong, made of high specs duraluminum, hard anodized to virtually unscratchable
